Evelyn began her business career working in her 3rd generation family business in 1984. Texas Plywood and Lumber, Co. was a DFW metroplex based supplier of doors and trim to homebuilders. She started at the sales desk, answering phones and taking orders. At that time the company supplied product for approximately 10 houses per week. Soon she was promoted to Purchasing Agent where she was responsible for purchasing the components for the production of pre-hung door units. In 1990, the company had grown to over 175 employees and a Director of Human Resources was needed. Evelyn stepped into that roll and built the Human Resources department from the ground up. In 2017, the family sold the business to a large national builder supplier. At that time, Texas Plywood was suppling well over 150 houses per week.

In 2017, Evelyn founded Blue Spruce Properties with her daughter, Ellen Middleton. Blue Spruce Properties is a real estate investment company that buys, sells, flips, renovates and owns rental properties. Currently, Blue Spruce Properties owns multiple rental properties, has 2 flip properties on the market, and is finishing renovations on another rental property.
